Vapor Barrier Installation

Installing Vapor Barriers can make a big difference in controlling the moisture and humidity levels in crawlspaces. Non-existent, poorly installed or worn vapor barriers can actually cause excessive moisture in your crawlspace leading to many issues including mold growth.

Vapor Barriers are typically made of reinforced polyethylene sheeting and although building codes in North Carolina only require 6 millimeter thick sheets, we typically recommend using 10 millimeter or above to prevent them wearing out quickly thereby protecting your investment. Vapor barriers should cover 100% of the ground with 12 inches of overlap between sheets and all seams should be taped securely. In some cases, we wrap all columns to prevent moisture wicking up concrete blocks and mechanically attach the vapor barrier to foundation walls using galvanize nails and washers.

EcoCrawls would be happy to come look at your crawlspace and evaluate your existing vapor barrier and/or provide a quote for replacement or new installation. Feel free to call (919) 265-8686 or use our contact form to request a consulation or quote.
